Morning: explore the Grotte de Dargilan, also called the Pink Cave

After a good night's sleep and a delicious breakfast at the Grand Hôtel du Parc, hit the road and head for Meyrueis and then the Dargilan cave, for about an hour drive. Once there, look for the ticket office and present the Grotte de Dargilan promo code you picked up at the hotel reception desk to benefit from a discount.

Then, let’s get started with the tour!

You'll enter the core of the largest cave in the Causses and Cévennes, exactly where Édouard-Alfred Martel, founder of modern speleology, and Louis Armand first explored it in 1888. On a journey of almost 1 km through this majestic cavity, you will be able to admire the incredible variety of its concretions, its numerous straws, its crystalline lakes and, the highlight of this 500,000-year-old spectacle, its impressive, petrified waterfall.

Thanks to the new, dynamic LED lighting, every nook and cranny of the multi-hued cave is protected and enhanced, offering a breathtaking visual experience. To fully appreciate your visit, take the time to listen to the passionate guides who will share with you the geological history and well-kept secrets of this underground wonder.

After your fascinating adventure, relax on the panoramic terrace with its picturesque view of the Jonte Gorge. A snack bar, a souvenir store and a picnic area will round off this unforgettable morning.

Afternoon: discover the authentic village of Meyrueis

If you do not decide to have lunch on the Grotte de Dargilan’s site, head to Meyrueis to sample a local speciality in one of its many restaurants. Taste local products such as cheeses, honeys, wines, and many other tasty products typical of the region.

Then set off to explore the village! There are several options: a guided tour to learn more about the history and emblematic places in Meyrueis, a themed tour with the Baludik app’s treasure hunt or a self-guided tour: stroll through the charming, narrow streets at your own pace. You can borrow a map from the Tourist Office. Don’t miss the medieval Château de Roquedols, overlooking the Jonte Gorge, and the Protestant Temple in Meyrueis, which is a listed historical monument!

For outdoors-lovers, Meyrueis is the ideal starting point for nature hikes and tours, such as the Pauparelle trail. This escapade will take you to the upper Jonte valley, winding through the beautiful Lozère landscapes. You can also embark on a bike ride to explore the Causses or opt for a relaxing stroll along the Jonte river to round off the afternoon.
Whether you're passionate about history, a hiking enthusiast or simply looking for a relaxing break, this day of activities combining the Dargilan cave and Meyrueis will be full of wonder. To relax and have a nice dinner, why not choose a peaceful and charming place like the Grand Hôtel du Parc? We'll be delighted to welcome you and advise you on many ways to discover the magnificent and surprising Lozère region.
