In a modern and welcoming atmosphere, you will follow a passionate guide who will help you learn everything there is to know about the history of blue jeans. And guess what? You may leave with a nice souvenir from the collection!

Atelier TUFFERY: the factory opens its doors to you

This tour will appeal to anyone interested in history, heritage preservation and local craftsmanship: as you push open the doors of the factory, you'll be captivated by all the details, from the photos to the tools, that retrace a history spanning more than 130 years. We give you here a taste of your upcoming visit.

Atelier TUFFERY, founded in 1892 by Célestin Tuffery in the heart of the Cévennes, is a true symbol of French savoir-faire. In the early days, Célestin made hard-wearing pants for workers in the Cévennes, and he became a pioneer in jeans manufacturing in France. Despite the different textile crises, the factory weathered the storm thanks to the unwavering commitment of the Tuffery family and the support of local customers.

Since the 2010s, the company has enjoyed a new impetus with Julien, the founder's great-grandson, and his wife Myriam. They have revitalized the brand by focusing on made in France and preserving the traditional craftsmanship. Atelier TUFFERY has been awarded the prestigious Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant (Living Heritage Company) label, which guarantees an exceptional know-how handed down from generation to generation.

Dive into the world of French denim

During the tour, your guide will take you behind the scenes of the workshop, introducing you to the world of made-in-France denim and the history of the Tuffery family. You will be amazed at every stage of production, from the design of the garment to the final sewing. Using ancient techniques, such as pattern-making on cloth with mineral chalk, you will watch as master tailors hand-cut the 44 pieces needed to make a pair of jeans.

Atelier TUFFERY does not limit itself to excellence in craftsmanship; the company also stands out for its slow-fashion approach. You will learn how the company is committed to ethical and sustainable fashion: using ecologically responsible materials and promoting environmentally-friendly practices, from the choice of raw materials as close to the factory as possible to demand-driven manufacturing to avoid overproduction.
